1. Know your target audience

Not understanding your target audience is the most common mistake amongst website owners. If you don’t know who you are writing to how do you know what you should write about? You have to write content that is relevant to your audience, otherwise, they will never engage with it.

Before writing any content, take a week to understand your target market. If you don’t know how to find your target market, the guys at Crazy Egg did a great job, check their article.

As soon as you’ll know your target audience, you’ll be able to write engaging content. Once, implemented, I can guarantee you that you will be seen as an expert.


Your content should be exciting and hook your readers. Your readers should have an incentive to continue reading your post.

The way you can do this is by using a framework. If you don’t have one, you can download and use ours HERE.

You should always aim to provide a solution to a problem your audience is facing.

You should never leave them without a clear solution.


You are not writing for Google.

Again, Google is not your reader.

Real people are going to read your article, so don’t think about your SEO when writing your article.

People are not robots, they don’t want to read your keywords in every paragraph. Use your creativity, write for them, provide a solution to a problem they are facing.

By doing this, you will get more people to engage with your content and Google will reward you for that.

4. BE ConsistenT

You have to stick to an agenda for your content. You want your readers to know when to expect an article from you.

This will also keep you accountable, and force you to sit down and write content.

If you commit to writing 1 article each week for a year, you will have 52 unique pieces of content!

Use the compounding effect in your favor.

5. What's in it for them

Too often, especially travel bloggers or consultants, focus on talking about them. But, when writing you should focus on what’s in it for the reader.

People want to learn something after reading an article. They don’t want to hear how good you are or how great your holidays were.

By using a personal, engaging and approachable tone. You can infuse your personality in your writing style.


If you don’t ask, they will never take action.

If you don’t ask for sugar at a coffee shop, they are not going to give it to you automatically. The same applies to your blog.

Encourage your readers to leave a comment by asking a question at the end of your article. We always ask questions at the end of each article to engage with our audience.

Does it work all the time ABSOLUTELY not and it’s normal!

7. Capture leads

When it comes to blogging, blog posts isn’t enough. You need to ensure that your blog posts drive traffic and conversions.

You can use lead capture tools such as GetResponse (this is what we use) on your blog so that your content serves its purpose.

Writing blog articles is great, however, you must have HAVE a lead capture in place. How are you going to keep in touch with them otherwise?

8. analyse YOUR DATA

Look at your data, don’t guess. Every week look at the past week and check how well your posts have performed.

Maybe posting your article at 9 AM on a Monday wasn’t a great idea. However, when posting the same article on a Wednesday at 7 PM you got more visits.

Use the data you are collecting to get better each week.

If you already had clients chances are they have friends who may need your services as a life coach. If you provide an incentive for them to refer you then you’ll automatically attract new clients. You can for example give them $100 for each referral.
